A Happy New Year!

皆さま、新年明けましておめでとうございます！

私はマーティン・フルックと申しまして、カントリーマネージャーとして日本のオークウッド８物件を統括しております。またオークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウン、オークウッドレジデンス麻布十番、オークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブ、オークウッドアパートメンツ新宿の総支配人を兼務しておりますので、常に私どもスタッフ全員が総力を挙げて、頑張っている姿を見守ることができております。

２００９年は長引く不況の中、多くの皆さまがチャレンジを余儀なくされたことかと思いますが、２０１０年寅年も、オークウッド・ジャパンは東京での皆さまの中長期滞在のお手伝いをさせていただきます事をお約束いたします。

Happy New Year!

This is Martin Fluck, Country Manger overseeing eight properties of Oakwood Japan and as the General Manager for our Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku, Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube, Residence Azabujyuban and Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown. This serves me as a great platform to see all our operations with a “hands on deck” outlook.

2009 brought on many challenges for all of our foreign based resident’s and as we make the transition into the year of the Tiger 2010, Oakwood Japan looks forward in keeping our promise to help you by remaining your temporary housing solution while in Tokyo.

Our associates are the core of our success and we will continue to do the best to keep up their spirits by offering them challenges for self-improvement, decision making and skills which in turn enhances their skill to direct and perform in exceeding all our resident’s expectations!

Goodbye to 2009

It is my great honor to write the final Oakwood Tokyo blog for 2009. The past year has been a very challenging one due to the ongoing effects of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and of course Oakwood in Tokyo was not immune. Due to the GFC, Oakwood had to quickly adapt to the tough new business environment that the entire world faced. Most of our efforts went into looking very closely at our costs and expenses and reducing them accordingly with the important aim of not lowering any of the standards or reducing the services that our residents expect from us. I am confident that residents will not notice any of these changes and that we will continue to be known as the leading Serviced Apartment operator in Tokyo and as well as being the “The Most Trusted Name in Serviced Apartments Worldwide”.

Here are a few of my highlights from 2009:

 The re-launch of our Japan website. It now has a fresh, new look and is much easier to navigate. And we have added Korean and Chinese web pages to the Japanese and English pages.

 The presentation that I gave about Oakwood’s Green Initiative at the Green Mondays networking event in March and then being be featured in an article about “green hotels and serviced apartments” in the American Chamber of Commerce Journal.

 The prefect fall weather at our fifth annual Oakwood Golf Tournament at the Harunanomori Country Club in Gunma. But I won’t mention my score here :)

 The win in Oakwood’s Asia Pacific’s “Oakwood’s Got Talent” YouTube video competition by the team of associates from Oakwood Residences Akasaka & Aoyama. You can view this great video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8w2NpJ0n5E

And here is just a glimpse of what to look forward to 2010:

 Oakwood Worldwide will celebrate our 50th birthday! Please keep reading this blog for the exciting details of how we will celebrate this milestone.

オークウッド東京ブログの2009年最後の締めくくりを担当させていただき大変光栄に思います。本年は世界的な金融危機の影響を受けとても厳しい1年となりました。この金融危機により、オークウッドも即座に世界中が直面した困難なビジネス環境に対応しなければなりませんでした。私たちはお客様の期待するあらゆるサービスやスタンダードを下げることなく、費用や経費に細心の注意を払い、削減に努めてまいりました。お客様にはこれまでと変わることなく、引き続き“サービスアパートメントの第一人者として広く世界に認められているオークウッド”として、自信をもって上質なサービスをご提供してまいります。

2009年のハイライト:

• オークウッドジャパンのウェブサイトをリニューアル。新たな装いで、簡単にサイト内を操作できるよう生まれ変わりました。また日本語・英語に加え、韓国語・中国語のサイトも新たに加わりました。

• 3月に行われた“グリーン・マンデー”というネットワーキングイベントにて、オークウッドの地球環境への取り組みについてプレゼンテーションを行い、ACCJジャーナルの“地球に優しいホテルとサービスアパートメント”と題した記事に特集されました。

• 今秋、榛名の森カントリークラブ(群馬県)にてオークウッドゴルフトーナメント開催。(私のスコアについてはここでは触れませんが:)

イルミネーション

皆様いかがお過ごしでしょうか。

さて、今回は私が勤務しています、オークウッドレジデンス青山の近くで行われている表参道イルミネーションが11年ぶりに復活しました。皆様はもう既にご覧になりましたか。

12月１日から来年の１月１０日まで表参道で１４０本の木に金色のLED６３万個で通りを照らします。また、木にも負担をかけないように付け方にも工夫、弱った木には付けない配慮がされているそうです。

１１年前はこの時期になるとクリスマスのデートの名所として大勢の人達がやってきました。（私はこのブログの為に一人でここに写真を撮りに来ました・・・。）また、渋滞で車がほとんど動かない状況になりますが今年はいかがでしょうか。

Illumination

Hello. This is Shunsuke Masuda from Oakwood Residence Aoyama.

Today, I would like to introduce you to the Omotesando Christmas illumination near our residence. This is the first time in 11 years that the 140 trees on Omotesando Street will be decorated with 630,000 gold LED lights.

11 years ago, thousands of people gathered at the popular “Christmas date spot” as we say in Japanese. This year? Same as it was 11 years ago attracting thousands and thousands of people. (I was the only one there taking pictures alone!)

青山の近隣

こんにちは、皆さん。
前回、ブログを書かせていただいたのはちょうど1年前でした。
1年ってあっという間ですね。
今回はオークウッドレジデンス青山の近隣と建物内のことで少し書かせていただこうと思います。

青山の建物は、スタジオタイプのワンルームから3ベッドルームまで幅広くお部屋のタイプが用意されています。
建物は低層階になっていて、レジデンスが1～5まであり全部で72部屋あります。
正面玄関から入り、中庭に抜ける前には入居者の方がご自由に利用できるラウンジがあります。
ゲストがコーヒーなどを飲みならが読書をしたり、ちょっとしたミーティングをしたりする空間になっています。
ご家族連れの滞在も多いため、小さいお子様も楽しめるキッズライブラリーや中庭に抜ける所にはキッズ用のプレイグラウンドがあります。
ラウンジから子供たちが遊ぶ光景も見られるので、お母様たちも安心して遊ばせられる場所のひとつになっています。

中庭から進むとレジデンス4と5があり、そこから裏通りのまい泉通りに出られます。
まい泉通りには、まい泉のとんかつ屋さんは勿論、他にもカフェ、パン屋さん、レストラン、美容院、コンビニなどが充実しています。
青山の近くで、新しいお店の発見ができるのも魅力の一つです。

Neighborhood of Aoyama

Hello Everyone! This is Yayoi Tsunaki, Sales Executive at Oakwood Residence Aoyama. It has been a year already since I last wrote on this blog. I feel time has flown by very fast! Let me introduce you the facilities and neighborhood information of Oakwood Residence Aoyama in this post.

Oakwood Residence Aoyama has 72 apartments ranging from Studio to 3-Bedroom located in five different blocks known as Residence 1 through 5.

The five blocks have a distinctive appearance compared to other buildings in the area as they are all low-rise. The main entrance is on Gaien Nishi Dori and a back entrance gives you direct access to a small shopping street known in our neighborhood as Maisen Dori (Maisen is the name of a famous Tonkatsu restaurant which is very popular in the area and often has long queues).

Once you enter the main entrance, you will find our Residents’ Lounge and internal courtyard. The lounge is a convenient space for guests to enjoy their coffee, read a book or have meetings. As we welcome many families, we also provide a children’s book library and a playground in the courtyard. Mothers can keep their eyes on their children in the playground while relaxing in the lounge.

As you proceed further through the internal courtyard, you can enter Residence 4 and 5. Residence 5 is where our back entrance to Maisen Dori is located. Once you exit this entrance you will find a number of restaurants (including Maisen), cafes, hair salons and convenience stores. This street is a good starting point to discover interesting new stores in the fashionable district of Aoyama.

第５回オークウッド東京ゴルフトーナメント

オークウッドレジデンス青山のセールスエグゼクティブの岩本　円です。　今回は１０月２４日（土）の開催された“第５回オークウッド東京ゴルフトーナメント”についてご紹介させていただきます。

毎年、オークウッドにご滞在されてるお客様といつもオークウッドをご利用してくださっている企業の方々にご参加いただいております。　今年は約３０人ものお客様がご参加してくださいました。今年は、紅葉もすでにはじまり秋の気配を感じる群馬県の“榛名の森カントリークラブ”でした。　紅葉を楽しみながら、スタッフもいっしょに加わり楽しい“ゴルフ三昧”の一日を過ごしました。　朝６時半にオークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンから皆でバスに乗り、榛名へ向かいました。　途中、高速道路が混みあった為、予定より遅く到着しましたが、雨もふらず皆で１８ホールを楽しみながら賞品をかけて戦いぬきました！

“榛名の森カントリークラブ”はアップダウンもかなりある難しいコースですが、ゴルフ好きも楽しめる素晴らしいゴルフコースでした。　そしてクラブハウスのレストランも有名な榛名ポーク（豚肉）をメインにした充実したメニューでした。　１７時に全プレイヤーがホールアウトして、その後お風呂で汗をながした後、宴会場で順位の発表をおこないました。　お客様同士、今回はじめて会う方々も多かったのですが、ゴルフ談義をしながら、順位の発表を気にしつつ、素晴らしい団欒の時間を過ごす事がきました。

オークウッドのゴルフコンペは毎年一度おこなっております。　毎年、少しでも多くの方々に参加していただけてたらと思います。　私自身は、ゴルフができない為にお手伝いとして今年は参加させていただきましたが、ゴルフを練習して、いつの日か私もプレイヤーとして参加したいものです！

My name is Madoka Iwamoto, Sales Executive at Oakwood Residence Aoyama. In this entry I would like to talk about the 5th Annual Oakwood Tokyo Golf Tournament which was held on Saturday, October 24th.

Every year we hold a Golf Tournament for Oakwood residents and clients who support our properties in Tokyo. This year we welcomed thirty participants and the venue was “the Haruna　no Mori Country Club” located in an area where we could truly enjoy the turn of the season.
Our guests and associates were able to enjoy a day of golf together while admiring the autumnal foliage. We all left Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown at 6:30 am on a bus headed for Haruna. Even though we were delayed by traffic on the highway, we were able to start the tournament as planned so players compete on the 18-hole course to win wonderful prizes.

“The Haruna no Mori Country Club” offers a great golf course loved by many golf enthusiasts despite its undulated slopes. The clubhouse restaurant offers a generous menu which specializes in the famous Haruna Pork. All players holed out at 5:00 pm and refreshed themselves with a shower and bath. They then headed to the banquet hall where the grand prizes were announced. Some of us had met for the first time and while we discussed our golf play and enjoyed each other’s company, we also paid attention to our results to find out each other’s score standing.

Oakwood’s Golf Tournament is held once a year. I hope that we can continue to have many customers to take part in this tournament. Since I cannot play golf, I could only join to help organize the tournament this time. However I would like to practice golf so that, hopefully, one day I will be able to join as a player as well!

小さな精鋭部隊

皆さんこの9月はいかがお過ごしでしたか。早いもので今年ももう10月をむかえましたね。

巷は相変わらずの不景気の声ばかりですが、この9月は我が国日本にも政権交代という歴史的な出来事が起こり、時代が何か良い方向へ動いていくのではないかと少し期待も持てるような気がする9月ではなかったでしょうか。

しかしながら、景気の回復は一向に良い方向に向いていないようで、オークウッドも多分にもれず、業績がなかなか好転せず四苦八苦しているところです。

そんな困難な場面に、小さくても新たな需要を掘り起こそうと弊社でも小さなマーケティングチームが結成されました。

チームは3名からなり、全員が予約業務やコーディネーターの業務を経験し、お客様とは（特に）電話での予約業務、契約のご案内、ご利用時のリクエストなど頻繁にコミュニケーションを重ねた、経験の豊富なスタッフで構成されております。

彼女たちは日々、1名で1日に30件以上の法人へコンタクトをして、エクスパットのリロケーション状況を尋ねてくれたり、資料送付、プロモーション料金の紹介、時には営業へのアポイントメントまでこなしてくれる我社の精鋭部隊なのです。

日々、彼女たちは（敬遠される営業電話への声にもめげず）不況を少しでも乗り切るために力を発揮してくれている縁の下の力餅なのです。

彼女たちへ感謝とエールを送ります。

このブログをたまたま読んでいただいた法人のスタッフの方がいらっしゃいましたら、ある日オークウッドから突然の電話がはいるかもしれません。

その際には、彼女たちに少々お付き合いくださいましたら幸いです。

An elite Oakwood troop

It is already October. I hope all of you had fruitful days in September.

For us in Japan, it was a historically memorable month when the governing party finally changed. Perhaps many of us are hoping that the change will lead our days in the right direction.

The economy however, still remains to be sluggish. It has not been a good time for us as well, and my team has been putting very hard efforts to improve the results.

Today, I would like to talk about our small marketing team which was recently started out in hope of capturing new demands under the current difficult situation.

The three members of the team are all experienced reservationists or sales coordinator. They are the ones who have directly and frequently communicated with our precious clients over the phone, for reservations, contracts, and various requests.

Each one of them contacts 30 companies or more each day. They would draw updates from each company on status of expatriates’ relocation, offer delivery of our information kits, introduce promotional rates, and sometimes successfully make appointments of sales calls. Absolutely reliable elite marketing troop!

Although such telemarketing calls are not always welcome, they never get discouraged and continue to work hard behind the scenes to support the company’s performance. My gratitude and cheers for them.

You may shortly receive a phone call from our elite troop. If it happens, I hope it will eventually become a mutually beneficial one for both you and us.

東京外人ラグビーフットボールクラブのスポンサー

新聞や雑誌、インターネットでの広告以外に、オークウッドのブランド名を皆さまに知っていただく絶好の機会がスポンサーシップです。今年オークウッド東京は、東京外人ラグビーフットボールクラブ（ＴＧＲＦＣ）のスポンサーとして、背中と袖にオークウッドのロゴが入った新しいプレー用ジャージを提供しました。

ここで、東京外人ラグビーフットボールクラブ（ＴＧＲＦＣ）を紹介したいと思います。

このクラブは1991年8月に、厳しくも公平なラグビーの従来のあり方をフィールド内外で兼ね備えることを目指したラグビー好きの駐在員達によって設立されました。日本のラグビー界の一員として、ＴＧＲＦＣは積極的に様々な東京ラグビーの大会に参加しています。

ＴＧＲＦＣは、香港10人制、北京10人制、マニラ10人制大会での大成功を収めたチームとして、またこれらの遠征時には、場外では日本の伝統的な装い（浴衣、ちょんまげ、はちまき、下駄）を披露したり、東京外人シャッフル（独自のハカ！）をするチームとしてよく知られています　（“ハカ”：　ニュージーランドのラグビー・チームのオール・ブラックスが1950年から試合前に踊るようになった、マオリのハカの要素を取り入れた踊り）チームは2005年、2006年、2007年に、香港と北京で試合でカップを獲得、そしてフィールド外でも“最も陽気なチーム”としてカップを獲得しました。

過去数シーズンにわたり、ＴＧＲＦＣはオークウッドスポンサーのシャツを着て、下記の様々な場面でオークウッドの名前を広めてきました。

Tokyo Gaijin Rugby Football Club Jersey Sponsorship

Besides advertising in newspapers, magazine and on the internet, a great way to promote the Oakwood brand name in Japan is through sponsorship. This year Oakwood Tokyo was happy to continue our sponsorship of the Tokyo Gaijin Rugby Football Club　(TGRFC) by supplying a new set of playing jerseys featuring the Oakwood logo on the back and on the sleeves.

Here is some information about the TGRFC, taken from their website: http://www.tokyogaijin.com/

The club was founded in August 1991 by rugby-loving ex-pats who were looking to combine the traditional virtues of hard but fair play both on and off the field. A feature on the Japanese rugby circuit, the Tokyo Gaijin club takes an active and highly visible part in various Tokyo Rugby competitions.

The Tokyo Gaijin are well known from very successful tours to the Hong Kong 10’s, the Beijing 10’s and the Manila 10’s where we wear our traditional Japanese tour outfits (Yukata, chonmage, hachimaki and geta) off the field and do the Tokyo Gaijin Shuffle (our version of the Haka!). The team has won silverware on the field in Hong Kong and Beijing and won silverware off the field (The Most Festive Team) in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

In the past few seasons, wearing Oakwood sponsored shirts; TGRFC has spread the exposure of the Oakwood name by:

• Winning the Ichihara (Chiba) League (in fact being undefeated in the past two years)
• Winning the Shuto League 1st Division in 2007 and 2008 – undefeated in 2008 season (Tokyo competition of 2 divisions and 14 teams in the Autumn)
• Sugadaira 10’s & 15’s Champions 2005 and 2006
• Playing in the Shuto League 7’s (Champions in 2005)
• Playing in the Tokyo Cup Second Division where we reached the semi-finals in 2008 (4 divisions with over 70 teams in Spring)
• Playing at the Manila 10’s (Semi-finalists in Plate Division in 2008)
• Continued exposure on TGRFC web-site (Number of hits: over 1million)

The Gaijin fully intend to build on this success both in Japan and Asia, as the club continues its inclusive philosophy of blending a cosmopolitan mix of nationalities. In the 2007/2008 squad, the Gaijin have been represented by players from the USA, Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Scotland, Argentina, Japan, Canada, France, Fiji, Spain and the Philippines. The playing and the many non-playing members of the club represent a diverse range of Tokyo life, including lawyers from America, New Zealand and Britain, recruitment professionals, advertising and construction executives, and international IT specialists. In the true spirit of rugby, the club is open to everyone, and the Gaijin is also well-supported by students, English teachers, University professors and bar-owners.

The club is delighted to wear the Oakwood logo on a new strip for season 2009. This will include rugby in the Chiba and Shuto league, at Manila 2009, and in next year’s Tokyo Cup.

都市の表情・街の個性

皆さま、こんにちは。今回は六本木セントラルでカスタマーサービスをしております　小林泉、小松光がいくつかの物件のご案内をしたいと思います。

Hello everyone. This time two of us, Hikaru Komatsu and Izumi Kobayashi are happy to introduce our experience at another property.

These three cities, Roppongi, Aoyama, and Shinjuku each have their own characters. In one word, for Roppongi, for Aoyama, and for Shinjuku: are the simple descriptions of these cities. アジア的な通り　

こんにちは、オークウッド・アパートメンツ新宿のカスタマーサービスを担当しております原田と申します。ご存知の通り、新宿は、ネオン輝く不夜城であり、私どものフロントも24時間のサービスを提供しております。

2、3週間前の夜遅くのことですが、外国からお越しのカップルのお客様から、近所にあるラーメン店についてワクワクしたご様子で「美味しいの？」とご質問を受けました。「個人的には、気に入っています」とお答えして、簡単にご説明申し上げると「食べてみたい！」とのこと。食券の買い方とトッピングのオーダーを書いてお渡ししたのです。

ところで、私どもが面している通りは「小滝橋通り」といい、ほんのいくつかのブロックに１５ほどのラーメン店がひしめいています。様々なタイプのラーメン店があり、醤油、魚だし、とんこつ、にんにくとんこつ、味噌、唐辛子の効いたもの、カレーなどなどがあります。ラーメンがそうであるように、日本の伝統的な文化は、中国、インド、韓国の影響を受けており、従って、この界隈は、まったくアジア的な通りであると言えるでしょう。

およそ1時間の後、カップルのお二人は、笑みを浮かべて戻って来られました。女性のお客様は少し照れたように、そして男性のお客様は何かを成し遂げたように。お口にあったかどうかうかがったところ、女性のお客様は、「とても美味しかったけれど、全部は、食べられなかったから、彼にあげたの」と仰います。男性の方は、それを受けて誇らしげにガッツポーズ。ラーメン店の店員は、私が差し上げたトッピング注文表を見て笑いながらＯＫ！と言ってくれたそうです。

A Street of Ramen Noodles

Hello! This is Tetsuro Harada from Customer Service of Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku. As you know, Shinjuku is a huge sleepless town with blinking neon signs, thus we are servicing for customers at front desk for 24 hours here in Shinjuku.

A few weeks ago, I had a request from a couple of our customers on a ramen noodle shop pretty late at night. They looked very excited and asked me if a certain ramen shop in our neighborhood is good with high expectation. I said they are all good as far as I know. And the lady said, ”I want to EAT IT!” So I wrote out instructions on two pieces of paper, one is for the shop staff to order some toppings and the other one for ticket machine.

By the way, the street in front of our building is called Otakibashi-Dori, which has not just one ramen shop, but about 15 of them, within a few blocks. There are various types of ramen shop such as soy-sauce, fishy soy-sauce, pork soup, garlic pork soup, miso soup, hot and spicy, curry soup and more. The Japanese culture has influences from China, India, Korea and many other Asian countries and so is the ramen noodle soup. Therefore, we can say this street is quite Asian-tic.

One hour later, the couple came back with smiling faces. The lady looked little ashamed and the gentleman looked to be accomplished something. I asked them if they have enjoyed. She said, “It was very good but I couldn’t finish it. So I left it for him”. He raised his fist as if he was a winner. About ordering menu in Japanese, they said the ramen shop clerk said OK with a smile when they gave order sheet which I made.

Front desk associates seem to have their favorite ramen shop. Please ask us at front desk if you become interested trying one.

仲間達

こんにちは！！オークウッドアパートメンツ新宿カスタマーサービスの山内　理沙と申します。入社してから既に３年が経ちました。

まず最初に、私自身のバックグランドを紹介させていただきたいと思います。私は日本人とマレーシア人のハーフです。日本で生まれましたが、14歳の時マレーシアに留学しました。そして日本に帰国したのが３年前でした。マレーシアへの留学当初は現地語（マレー語）と英語はまったく話せませんでしたが、その後家族の支えもあり、今では３ヶ国語を話せる様になりました。今となっては、留学を許可してくれ、常にサポートしてくれた両親に感謝で一杯です。

帰国後カスタマーサービスとして入社して、今、供にフロントで仕事をしている仲間達と会いましたが、皆いろいろな体験をしていて、中には私と似た経験をしてきたスタッフも居ます。では、そのフロントの仲間達をご紹介いたします。
飯嶋さんはとても面白い子でいつもフロントを明るくしてくれます。藤原さんは、会社の飲み会に参加はしますが、お酒は一切飲まない不思議な方です。原田さんはいつもみんなの意見を聴いて理解してくれるお父さんのような人。金（キム）さんは韓国語でいつも皆さんを助けてくれますし、吉玉さんは皆のお手伝いをしてくれたり心配をしてくれる優しい女性です。佐藤さんはフロントのお兄さんでいつも皆の面倒を見てくれてます。冨成さんは皆の為にイベントをアレンジしてくれるプランナーです。鴨井さんはフロントのロックスター！！この素晴らしい仲間たちのお陰で、いつでも仕事に打ち込めます！

最後になりますが当館で利用いただける施設の中で、私の一番のお気に入りのスカイラウンジをご紹介いたします。入社して初めてスカイラウンジに行った時、凄く感動しました。最上階の32階から見る東京・新宿の景色は凄くきれいで、３年経った今でもその美しい景色は私の期待を裏切りません。晴れの日には遠く富士山を望む事ができ、そして夜になるとネオンに照らし出された夜景が凄く綺麗です。東京タワーのイルミネーションも見えます。見るたびに私は自分が仕事中であることを忘れてその夜景や景色に見惚れてしまう程です。

Hello!! My name is Risa Yamauchi and I am working as a customer service representative at Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku. I have been working here at Shinjuku for 3 years already.

First, I’d like to introduce my background. I am Half Malaysian and I was born in Japan. However, the last 8 years, I was back in Malaysia and spent wonderful time with my family. I went to Malaysia by the age of 14 and I came back to Japan 3 years ago. When I got there, of course I could speak neither Malay nor English, but I do thank my parents who supported me patiently and now I could speak these languages, which eventually brought me an opportunity to work in Oakwood.

After I joined in the Oakwood, I met Front office members, who have several different experiences, some of them have similar to mine, and they are very friendly and great. Now, I would like to introduce this member. Fujiwara-san does not drink alcohol at all. Natsuki is the happiest, go lucky and funniest girl and that I’ve ever known. Harada-san is the best listener to hear our thoughts always. Tae ho always help us with Korean language, Aya always try to help other people and very caring person. Miho-san likes to organize events for everyone!! Michiya-san is very nice brother to us. Sei is rocker!! I can’t work without them!!

Last, I would like to share my experience and tell you the best part of staying here at Oakwood Shinjuku.
First when I got here, I really liked going up to the Sky lounge and see the nice city view of Tokyo, and even today I enjoy its view, which never betray me. On shinny day you could see Mount Fuji even its really far away. At the night time, you will enjoy the neon lights of Tokyo, such as Tokyo Tower. Whenever I looked at the view I forget that I am on duty. It is just that beautiful.

代々木公園　

皆様はじめまして。オークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブでカスタマーサービスをしている畑中 千秋です。今回ブログを担当させていただいて紹介したい場所が「代々木公園」です。
東京に住む人の憩いの場と言っても過言ではない場所となっていますね。オークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブにご滞在のお客様が観光として行かれたり、または週末のお散歩に行ってらっしゃるのをよく見かけます。みなさん、代々木公園で、ほぼ毎週末のようにフリーマーケットや何かしらイベントが開かれているのをご存知ですか？

今回はそんなイベント尽くしな代々木公園で、様々な国と日本の交流を記念するイベントについて紹介したいと思います。

私は5月９・10日に行われたジャマイカのイベント：One Love Jamaica Festivalに行ってきました。
ジャマイカと言えばレゲエですが、レゲエにあわせて歌う人やダンスを披露する人、ジャマイの料理を売ったりする人などなんでもありです。ジャークチキンとビールは最高に合いますので是非一度お試しを！中には雑貨屋もたくさんあり、楽器やアクセサリー、洋服までセールをしているので楽しめます。

その他タイやインドのイベントも毎年あるので、散歩に寄った際など是非行ってみてください。私も週末に明治神宮に行かれる客様がいらしたらイベント情報をご提供できるように努めていきたいです。

Hello. My name is Chiaki Hatanaka. I am the Customer Service Representative of Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube.

I would like to introduce you some of the events in Yoyogi Park. This place is very famous and everybody can have peaceful time there.Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube guests are going there for sightseeing or go for a walk on weekend.Have you heard about many events and flea-market in Yoyogi Park?

I went to an event called ‘One love Jamaica Festival’ on May 9th and 10th.Many people were dancing and singing with Reggae music in front of the stage. Also some people were cooking Jamaican food and selling them. I would like to recommend a Jerk chicken to you. Unfortunately, I do not have any picture of it but once you eat it, you could never forget that taste. If you drink beer with it…simple wonderful! Please have a chance to taste REAL Jerk Chicken!
There are many kind of street stall too. For example, folk crafts, musical instruments, jewelry, clothes etc….you may make a lucky find!!

Also Yoyogi Park has Thai, India and seasonal festivals during the course of the year.
If there are any guests who are going to visit around the area, I would love to recommend visiting the Yoyogi Park, and share the event information!

ブリティッシュヒルズ

　今回のブログを担当しますオークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブの京子です。
今日はちょっと変わった新幹線で行けるイギリスこと、福島県のブリティッシュヒルズをご紹介します。

私がブリティッシュヒルズと出会ったのは２年前に夫がそこで仕事を始めたことがきっかけです。
中世英国を再現した福島の文化施設で公用語は英語。施設内の通路や広場の名称をはじめ建物、インテリア、家具、調度品などすべて時代考証に基づき、中世英国様式を再現しているので、福島県にありながら敷地内に一歩入るとそこはもうブリティッシュなのです。
ちなみに、ドラマ「花より男子」の道明寺財閥のお屋敷という設定でロケにも使われていました。

ブリティッシュヒルズでの体験で一番心に残っているのは、オールドイングリッシュローズの庭園でのアフタヌーンティーです。3段重ねのお皿に乗せられたスコーンやサンドイッチをいただき至福のひと時を過ごしました。
昨年の夏には敷地内の池で、水の綺麗な場所にしか生息ない日本で唯一木の上に産卵するモリアオガエルの産卵場面にも遭遇しました。
都会の喧騒から離れて大自然の中でリラックスしたい方、癒されたい方、又はイギリス好きな方には是非お勧めです。宿泊施設としても充実していてサウナやプール、スヌーカー（ビリヤード）それに本格的なパブまで完備されています。ハリーポッターの世界にいるような気分の大食堂でいただくディナーも素敵です。
たまには同業他社の宿泊施設に足を運び、見習いたいところとそうでないところに気付き自らの仕事に生かしていくことは大切な事だと思います。

My name is Kyoko, I am one of the Customer Service Representative at T-Cube. Today, I would like to introduce to you a special place called British Hills. I first found out about this unique English hotel about 2 years ago when my husband began to work there. It's located on a small mountain in the forest of Hatori Natural Park in Fukushima. It is about 1,000 meters above sea level. British Hills is a mediaeval British village, which includes a manor house, a craft house, and 8 guesthouses. All these buildings have been reconstructed based on British architectural styles from the Twelfth and Eighteenth Century. Some of you might have seen it in the Japanese drama called Hanayori Dango.
One of my fondest memories at British Hills was having afternoon tea in the Old English rose garden. I always dream about the scones, finger sandwiches, and cute sweets served on the 3 layered plates with tea. Also, while walking around the British style village I could see the spawning of a rare Moriaogaeru frog in the pond near the craft house. These frogs can only live in clean water, and they are the only species of frogs that lay their eggs in a tree in Japan.
British Hills has great facilities as a Hotel. They have a sauna, big snooker table, British style pub and the great big dining hall just like the one in the Harry Potter movie.
I think it is very important to see places in the same business as us. See what other hotels do well and then you can try to improve your work place.

I highly recommend British Hills for people who want to have some quiet relaxing time in the deep forest or who simply loves British style of life. I am sure that you will fall in love with the taste of the tea and scones in the rose garden.

マタニティーマーク

こんにちは！
今回のブログを担当します、オークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブでカスタマーサービスをしております小田哲史と申します。
留学先のカナダから帰国した後、2007年2月にオークウッドに入社しました。配属されました六本木ティーキューブでは、アットホームな環境の中で毎日楽しく仕事をしています。
私事ですが妻が近々出産予定という事もあり、今回は電車でお見かけするマタニティー・マークを紹介させていただきます。電車等に乗られている際に、妊婦かどうかの確信が持てず、席を譲るべきかどうか悩まれた経験は誰もがお持ちではないでしょうか。そうした時の判断材料となるのが、この東京メトロ及びに各主要路線の駅で配布されているマタニティー・マークです。

Greetings! My name is Satoshi Oda, working as a Customer Service Representative at Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube. I have joined Oakwood in 2007, being assigned to Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube after returning from Canada. I have been having a wonderful time working here at Roppongi T-Cube with wonderful colleagues.
As with my wife to give birth soon, I would like to introduce the so-called “There is a baby in my stomach” maternity mark tags which can be often seen worn by expectant mothers on the train. Especially in the early stages of pregnancy, it is difficult to tell from ones appearance whether they are pregnant which results in not being offered seats throughout their ride. I believe many of us has those experiences when we were not for sure whether the person standing close by was pregnant and ended up not offering our seats.
Maternity mark tags are handed out at the train stations to the expectant mothers in hope to prompt passengers to offer their seats.
With having many families staying with us throughout the year, the lounge area is often filled with children’s smile and laughter. Recently, one of our guest who have been staying with us for a long term has just delivered their second baby, which is one of the main characters about Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube that we often have guests giving birth during their stay with us. With it being so, I would like to introduce this baby badge to the expectant parents staying with us so that they would be able to enjoy their stay in Tokyo. 麻布十番

今回ブログを担当させていただくオークウッドレジデンス麻布十番のカスタマーサービスの石井愛子です。オークウッドに入社して約２年がたちます。

オークウッドレジデンス麻布十番は、おしゃれなカフェ、レストランやお店などが立ち並ぶ麻布十番商店街に位置していて、和食はもちろん世界各国の料理をお楽しみいただけます。伝統のあるお店に並び、最近では新しいお店も次々にOPENしています。よくお客様より「お勧めなレストランはありますか、」という質問を受けますが、そのような時のために私たちはレストランマップを用意しています。この地図には麻布十番が初めてというお客様にも美味しい料理を楽しんで頂けるようにスタッフがおすすめするお店や、お客様にお勧めして頂いたお店などが載っています。

その中でも今日は私がおすすめするお店を紹介させて頂きたいと思います。まず始めはポワンタージュというパン屋です。歩いていてたまたま見つけた店です。店に入ると、可愛らしい菓子パンやハードパン、惣菜などがショーケースに綺麗に並べられて、その横には食事が楽しめるカフェスペースがあります。パンはどれも美味しいものばかりで、パン好きにはたまらないお店です。ランチもとてもおすすめで、いつもすぐに満席になってしまいます。次はシンガポール料理が楽しめる海南鶏飯（ハイナンジーファン）というお店です。このお店は一緒に働くスタッフに勧めてもらいました。鳥のスープで炊いたご飯にチキンがのったチキンライスはとても美味しいです。最初はパクチーが嫌いでよけて食べていましたが、このお店のおかげで今ではパクチーが大好きです！マンゴープリンも最高です！このように、歩いていてお気に入りのお店を見つけたり、スタッフと一緒にランチに行って色々なお話をしたり、麻布十番はとても面白く魅力のある街です。お客様と麻布十番の美味しいお店の話で盛り上がるなんてこともよくあります。

料理は自炊！なんて方もご安心ください。キッチンには料理するための道具やお皿などすべてついているので、何もお持ちいただく必要はありません。オークウッドから徒歩１０分圏内には２４時間OPENのスーパーマーケットをはじめ、輸入食品などを取り扱ったスーパーマーケットなどがありとても便利です。ご家族の方はもちろん、出張でお越しの方、どのような方でも麻布十番でのご滞在をお楽しみいただけること間違いありません。美味しく魅力的な街、麻布十番へぜひお越しください！

Azabujuban

Hello! I'm Aiko from Oakwood Residence Azabujyuban. It has been 2 years since I joined Oakwood. Our property is located at the main street of Azabujuban shopping street which has many nice cafés, restaurants, and many other stores. You can enjoy not only Japanese restaurants, but also the tastes from all over the world. Recently a lot of new stores opened amongst many traditional Japanese stores “Is there any restaurant you recommend?" We receive such question from some of our guests. Don’t worry! We prepared a “restaurant map.” The map includes a lot of restaurants that all of our staff and guests recommended.

I would like to recommend some restaurants from this map. First one is a bakery called "pointage." I found this bakery when I was walking to station. You will find some pretty pastries, breads, and salad in the showcase. Beside the bakery, there is a place to eat-in and you can enjoy breads and cafe in the morning, lunch, and dinner. I believe those who like breads would love this store. At lunch time, it's always crowded because they are really good! Next one is called "Hainanchifan." At this restaurant, you can enjoy Singapore taste. One of our colleagues recommended this place to me. Chicken with the steamed rice is very good, I hated the Pakuchi leaves at first and I was not able to eat it at all. However, by having this Pakuchi with "chicken rice" many times made me able to eat it! And now I love pakuchi, Mango pudding is also really good!
Azabujuban is very interesting town as you can enjoy many different kinds of international cuisine and may be able to find your favorite restaurants while you walk around. We enjoy eating at restaurants in Azabujuban. It's also fun to talk with guests about such restaurants.

For those who like to cook at home would love Azabujuban as well. Because we have the fully equipped kitchen as you may know. Also, there is a supermarket opened 24 hours nearby, where you could purchase imported food items from all over the world. You will feel very convenient. Anyone who visits Azabujuban will feel the convenience and be interested. We all look forward to welcoming you to Azabujuban!

ルーフガーデン

皆様、はじめまして、私はオークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンのカスタマーサービスの馬渕暁大と申します。２００７年に１５年間お世話になったニュージーランドから帰国し（人生の半分以上！）オークウッドに入社しました。最初は久しぶりに東京で暮らすと言う事にとても緊張し戸惑いもありましたが、弊社はとても穏やかで、今日まで快適に仕事が出来ています。

今日は、オークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンにある施設、ルーフガーデンの紹介をさせていただきます。ルーフガーデンは５階にあり、オークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンの憩いの場となっております。ご滞在のお客様はこの場所を自由に利用することができ、テーブルやベンチも完備されているのでちょっとしたティータイムや日向ぼっこに最適です。子供用のプレイハウスや滑り台、シーソーだけでなく、最近ではラベンダーやハーブも植えられとても落ち着く空間となっております。

Greetings!! My name is Akihiro Mabuchi and I work as customer service representative at Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown. In 2007, I have joined Oakwood after spending 15 years in New Zealand. (More than half of my life!) At first I was very nervous living back in busy Tokyo, however, inside Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown I felt the same “at home” feeling I have experienced in New Zealand which made me very comfortable working here.

Today I would like to introduce our Roof Garden in Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown. Roof Garden is located in the 5th floor and provides serenity in the busy Roppongi area. Residents’ can enjoy this space for many occasions. This facility has table area where residents’ can invite their guest to have afternoon tea or just enjoy the sun during the day. We also planted lavender and herbs to lighten up our roof garden. Kids play area was recently created for resident with small children. Toddler and above can enjoy the playhouse, slide, and seesaw.

オークウッドのハウスキーピング

こんにちは。　オークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブとオークウッドレジデンス麻布十番でハウスキーピングマネージャーを担当しております、岩田　龍昌と申します。

オークウッドに入社し間もなく3年が経とうとしていますが、それまでは国内のラグジュアリーホテルそして北米のリゾートホテルの仕事に従事していました。 現在とは全く違う山や湖に囲まれたリゾートに住んでいた私にとって、六本木はエキサイティングな場所であり新鮮でした。素敵なレストラン、バーそしてナイトクラブ。毎日働いている私にとっても決して飽きることのない場所ですが、そんな六本木で過ごせる機会を与えてくれたオークウッドに感謝しています。

ところでハウスキーピングマネージャーとして働いている私ですが、日々心がけていることがあります。
まず、ハウスキーピングで一番大切なことはチームワークそしてスタッフの成長にあると考えます。　ベッドメイキングからキッチンの隅々の清掃に至るまでオークウッドの高い質を維持向上するためにチームで取り組んでいますが、日々奮闘するスタッフ一人一人が成長をした時に部門の成功があるのだと思います。また、気持ちのある暖かいお部屋（雰囲気・空間）を作るということ。　タオルの折り方、キッチンウェアーの置き方、椅子の向きに至るまでにこだわり、また季節や日本の伝統的なところを上手く取り入れているところも特徴の一つ。例えば今週ですと、オークウッドレジデンス麻布十番のエントランスのお花はチューリップの入った暖かな春をイメージ。またラウンジには豪華な雛人形も飾りました。Homeyで暖かさ溢れるオークウッドに今後もご期待ください。

Hello, I am Tatsuyoshi Iwata, Housekeeping Manager in Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube and Oakwood Residence Azabujuban.

I have been with Oakwood almost three years and prior to joining Oakwood, was working for a resort in North America and also for a luxury hotel in Tokyo in my old days.Since I was in a mountain resort with lakes and lots of nature prior to coming back to Tokyo, it was exciting and fresh for me to work in Roppongi where has lots of nice restaurants, bars and of-course nightclubs and here, I would like to special thank to Oakwood which offered me the opportunity in this wonderful place to enjoy my life especially after work.

By the way, there are few things that I take very important in housekeeping operations.
Teamwork and the growth of the associates are essential, we always work together to improve and maintain our highest standards of apartments such as bed making, dusting of the high and/ or hiding places, cleaning and polishing the every items in the apartments and believe the success of housekeeping are depending on how much our people grew up. Ｉ would like to write about Oakwood Residence Azabujyuban today.

Oakwood Residence Azabujyuban is suitable accommodation for family use. It is located on the Azabujuban Shopping Street, a street with nicely paved sidewalks, surrounded by various restaurants, stores and supermarkets. It is only a 5 minute walk to the station, and a 10 minute walk to Roppongi Hills, a mega-shopping,/entertainment/office complex. Azabujuban is also an area where you can experience old town Japanese tradition and culture in the center of Tokyo.

There are many guests staying with their families at Oakwood Residence Azabujyuban. We hold resident’s parties regularly for adults and children to enjoy. There are parties where children can dress up in cute costumes. They always make us happy, and we are trying our best to make sure they are happy as well. 営業のローナです。
休暇から戻り１０日経ったところで、ようやく現実に戻ってきました。
様々なところから多くのお問い合わせを頂き、仕事に追われておりますがたいしたことありません！この不景気の中、これだけお問い合わせを頂けるということは会社にとって嬉しい悲鳴です。そしてこれは会社だけでなく、私にとっても嬉しい悲鳴なのです、私のお給料はお客様からでているのですから！

JMC Investment LLCの社長である、John M. Capozziが書いた2作目の著書に“If you want the rainbow….You Got to put up with the rain” という本があります、これは1994年に書かれた1作目の著書の”Why Climb the Corporate Ladder When you can take the elevator?”に続く続編となっています。世界的にビジネスで成功した指導者からの格言、引用文、逸話などが含まれています。今は不景気ですが、雨が降ったあとは虹がでるはずですからみなさんがんばりましょうね！

私のとって素晴らしい本とは、仕事においての知恵を与えてくれる本です。

Stuffs! Lots of booking inquires coming in from various sources. Lots of works
to catch up with but no big deal! Overall this indicates a good sign for the company and especially during the current turndown economy situation. Whoops! I should say it is of both beneficial, the Company (employer) and the employee (me). Overall it’s not the Company (employer) who pays my wages. The employers only handle the money. It’s the customer who pays my wages.

wrote his second book and title of the book is; If you want the rainbow….You Got to put up with the rain and it a wonderful extension of his first book written in 1994 , Why Climb the Corporate Ladder When you can take the elevator? It too contains few hundreds of his favourite maxims that he either created it personally or heard on the street and doesn’t know the source. It also contains quotes, stories, anecdotes from many senior well respected world leaders pertaining to their success in business.

Also, these are the only favourite books which I don’t just breeze through. Instead of it takes me some moment to consider the meaning and moral of each item. To me it is indeed a great book that provides you with powerful business tools. I shall share with you share with you this sampling of excerpts from these books when I have a chance to talk to you again….

PMC

こんにちは、オークウッドセールスエグゼクティブの夏川礼子です。今回は私が社外で参加をさせて頂いているPMCという勉強会について（①）と、その２００８年度忘年会について（②）ご紹介させて頂きます。
① PMC（http://www.pmc-netmeeting.com/index.html）とは外資系企業の人事・総務部責任者の勉強会です。毎月の定例会では講師の方をお招きし、色々なトピックについて勉強します。会員交流会等も催されるので、自分の知識と人脈を広げる場としていつも楽しく活用させて頂いています。私はPMCへ入会して来年で３年目になりますが、２００９年は執行部役員を担当させて頂く事になりました！PMCにご興味がありましたら、是非私までお知らせ下さい。
② 先日、弊社のオークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンのラウンジにてPMCの忘年会を開催致しました。来年執行部役員を控えた私のスピーチは、緊張のせいか終始直立不動でしたが、ラウンジから見える綺麗なクリスマス・イルミネーションにはうっとりとしてしまいました。ドンペリニョンとワインテイスティング・クイズや素敵なフランス料理があり、企画・準備など多岐に渡り取り組んで頂いた皆様のお陰で、非常に沢山の会員様にお集まり頂き大成功を収めることができました！みなさん本当に有難うございました！！

Hello, I am Reiko Natsukawa, Sales Executive from Oakwood; I would like to take this opportunity to share my impressions of the PMC meetings and Year End Party, 2008.
1)　PMC (http://www.pmc-netmeeting.com/english.html) is a monthly get-together meeting where executives from international finance department and general affairs section (foreign corporate organizations) meet and share best practices with each other on various issues. Lecturers and field experts are regularly invited to this monthly meeting. It is a great opportunity for members to express their views and to broaden their knowledge, while at the same time expand their network by meeting with elite executives.
Next year will be my 3rd year being a member of PMC and I am very excited about my new role as the 2009 general board member. Should you have the interest of becoming PMC members please do not hesitate to contact me.
2)　Last week I had the pleasure to attend the PMC year end party held at Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown lounge. I was very nervous about giving my speech but was absolutely captivated by all the wonderful Xmas illuminations which are visible from the lounge. We enjoyed great French cuisine and also participated in the Don Perignon / wine tasting quiz which was a lot of fun! I would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts made in making the event a great success.
I am sure many of you will have plenty more Year End Parties and Xmas Parties to attend before the New Year commence, so do not to drink too much! Happy Festive Greetings!

オークウッドゴルフトーナメント

突然、ピンチヒッターでブログを書いてくれなんて、心の準備もしていないのに、どうしよう！ブログなんて書いたことないので緊張してしまいます・・・

改めまして、わたくし営業の戸田です。今回オークウッド恒例のゴルフトーナメントについてご報告します。

先週土曜日10月11日に第4回オークウッドゴルフトーナメントがウィンザーパークゴルフ＆カントリークラブにて開催されました。

なんと今回で４回目のゴルフトーナメントだったのです。毎年参加者も増え、今年は４３名のゴルファーが集まりました。オークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンに６時に集合し、エグゼクティブアシスタントマネージャーＡｍｙとそのメンバーが作ってくれたおいしい朝食を食べた後、お客様３６人とオークッド関係者７名はバスに乗り込み元気に出発。

途中雨が降ってきて心配ではありましたが、ゴルフ場についたころには雨も止み、ホット一息、というのもつかの間、早速着替えて外でミーティング、はりきって練習場へ抜け駆けをする人も何人か目撃致しました。結構みんな賞品ねらっている？

人数も多かったので、１ホールからスタートの組と１０ホールからの組とわかれ次々スタートしました。”フォトグラファー”として参加の私は皆さんの素敵なスイングショットを撮るのに一生懸命で気がつくと１１時をまわっており、皆さんが前半終了してクラブハウスへ戻ってくるまでの時間に昼食を済ませ、またまたスタンバイ。

天気はどんどん回復し、日も差してきておりプレイしている皆様は汗ばむくらいまで気温も上昇。ウィンザーパークゴルフではゴルフカートでゴルファーは移動しないので（クラブだけが乗って移動するかわいいキャディー車があるのです。）皆様後半ちょっとお疲れ気味のようでした。

それでも皆様がんばって１８ホール無事終了！その後は待ちに待った授賞式とカクテルパーティー、おいしい料理も出てみんなニコニコ顔。　参加者全員に（もちろんゴルファーだけですけど・・・）賞品が授与されました。目玉はなんといってもキャセイパシフィック航空からの香港行きのビジネスクラスチケット二人分でした。わたしも頑張ってゴルフ特訓して来年参加しようかななんて一瞬思ってしまうぐらい豪華な賞品に皆さん感動しておりました。

とても疲れた一日ではありましたが、なにより皆さんがオークウッド主催のゴルフトーナメントの一日を楽しまれ、とても楽しかったありがとうと言って頂けたことが嬉しかったです。来年はこのブログを読んでくれている皆様も参加できますよう、オークウッドファミリーになりましょう！お待ちしています！（あ、つい営業のくせがでてしまいました・・・）

今回、開催の準備で大変だった秘書の肥後さんと他のオークウッドメンバー！お疲れ様でした。

Oh, no! I was just asked to write about our Gold Tournament which was held on Saturday 11 October. I am a little bit nervous as I have never done "blog" in my life.
Anyway, it seems that I have no choice...so, first of all, let me introduce myself... I am Keiko from Sales department.

Last Saturday, on 11th of October, the Oakwood annual golf tournament was took place at Windsor Park Golf & Country Club.

It was our 4th annual golf tournament. It has been getting bigger every year and we got 43 golfers this year.
We all met at 06:00am at Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown and had nice breakfast prepared by our Executive Assistant Manager, Amy, and her team. After filling our stomach, 36 guests and 7 Oakwood members got on the bus and left for Windsor Park Golf Course.

We were worried about the weather as it was raining outside on the way. But, the time when we reached the golf course, it stopped (even though it was still cloudy). All the golfers quickly changed to their golf outfit and came out for the briefing meeting. I saw some members who disappeared for practice before tee-off. Maybe they want to win prizes??? (No wonder, there were superb prizes for the winners!)

Some started from hole-1 and the others tee-off at hole-10. As I was there as a "photographer" with two other colleagues, I was busy taking pictures of beautiful (?) swing of each participant! I did not realize that it was already 11:00am when all left for next hole. We, "photographers", then had early lunch and waited for the players to come back from their 1st half.

In the afternoon, it was getting hot and sunny. The golfers were all sweaty.
They looked a little bit tired during 2nd half as at Windsor, the golfers do not have a golf cart to ride on but there was a cute cart only for golf clubs (:o)

But they all finished 18 holes. Now it's a party time! I mean it' s the award ceremony time!! We first enjoyed delicious foods with drinks. They all looked so happy as they must have been very hungry?! after long walking & swinging! The other thing which made them even happier was wonderful gifts which all the participants (only golfers but not for non-golfers/photographers...) received during the award ceremony. Can you believe that the grand prize was 2 business class round tickets to Hong Kong, offered by Cathay Pacific Airlines? These gifts actually tempted me to participate in our golf tournament as a golfer! Thank you to all our sponsors including Windsor golf club!

It was a long day for me but I could forget about my tiredness after hearing "Thank you" from all our guests. The most important thing is that they enjoyed our Golf tournament and had great time with us!!!

オークウッドワールドワイドのプレジデントが来日しました

5月16日（金）、オークウッド・ワールドワイドのプレジデント、スティーブ・セルサー氏がロサンゼルスより来日しました。財務担当バイス・プレジデントのヴィンス・ルディニカ氏も同行。さらにシンガポールからも、オークウッド・アジア・パシフィックのトップを務めるPGマシュー氏とオペレーション担当バイス・プレジデントのピーター・ルーカス氏がこれに合わせて来日し、東京にあるオークウッド9物件をすべて案内しました。セルサー、ルディニカ両氏にとっては初めてのアジア訪問です。東京を皮切りに、ソウル（オークウッド・プレミア・コエックス・センター）、北京（オークウッドレジデンスおよびオークウッドアパートメンツ）、バンコク（オークウッド・シティ・レジデンスおよびオークウッドレジデンスSukhumvit24）を訪れ、最後に、地域本部であるオークウッド・アジア・パシフィックのオフィスを訪問する、というなかなかの強行スケジュールでした。

スティーブ・セルサー氏は、オークウッド・ワールドワイドのCFOを7年間務めた後、昨年10月にプレジデントに昇格しました。今回のアジア歴訪は、オークウッドのアジア展開に関するの知識を深め、アジアの物件とそこで働くスタッフ（オークウッドでは「アソシエイツ」と呼びます）を知ってもらうことが目的です。昨月サンディエゴで開催されたオークウッド・ワールドワイドの世界会議で、セルサー・ルディニカ両氏にお会いしたばかりの私にとっては、地元東京で彼らを迎えることができ、しかも私が総支配人を務める4物件をご案内することができたことは大変うれしいことでした。

うれしいことに、セルサー、ルディニカ両氏とも、東京の９つのオークウッドの素晴らしさに驚かれたようでした。東京の物件は、主に3つの異なるオーナー（三井不動産、GIC、およびハワイを本拠地とするプロスペクト・アセット・マネジメント）が所有しており、オークウッドはオーナーに代わってこれらのサービスアパートメントを運営しているのですが、両氏はこれらオーナー会社とも交流を持ち、短いながらも充実した時間を過ごしたようでした。

今回のツアーのハイライトは東京のマネジメントチームと来日エグゼクティブたちとのカクテルパーティーでした。それぞれの物件からの30名以上のマネージャーそしてスーパーバイザー達がオークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンの華やかなラウンジに集まりました。セルサー氏より東京の功績に賛辞が述べられ、私達東京チームは高い評価を受けました。彼は私達の今収めている業績や私達に寄せられた入居者の方からの素晴らしいコメント、また私達がここ日本でオークウッドを代表していることを大変誇りに思ってくれたようでした。

On Friday May 16th we hosted a tour of all nine Tokyo properties by Oakwood World Wide’s (OWW) President from Los Angles U.S.A., Mr. Steve Selcer. Accompanying Mr. Selcer on the tour was Mr. Vince Rudinica (OWW Treasurer and Vice President also from L.A.), Mr. P.G. Mathew (Oakwood Asia Pacific’s Managing Director from Singapore) and Mr. Peter Lucas (Oakwood Asia Pacific’s VP of Operations, Singapore). It was both Mr. Selcer’s and Mr. Rudinica’s first visit to Asia, with Tokyo being the first stop on a whirlwind tour that would take them to Seoul (Oakwood Premier Coex Center), Beijing (Oakwood Apartments and Oakwood Residence), Bangkok (Oakwood City Residence and Oakwood Residence Sukhumvit 24) and finally the OAP regional office in Singapore.

Steve Selcer was promoted to President in October last year after being OWW’s Chief Financial Officer for seven years. This trip was an educational tour for him to learn about the way Oakwood operates in Asia, to become familiar with the properties and to meet with Oakwood associates (employees). I had met both Steve and Vince on my recent trip to San Diego to the OWW Management meeting, so it was my great pleasure to help to make them feel welcome to Tokyo and to show case the four properties that I manage here (Oakwood Residences Akasaka and Aoyama and Oakwood Apartments Shirokane and Roppongi Central).

I am happy to mention that they were both very impressed with my properties, as well as the all of the other five Oakwoods, and that they thoroughly enjoyed their brief stay. As well as touring all of the properties, they took the opportunity to meet with our owners. Oakwood is a management company and we manage all our properties on behalf of the different owners. There are basically three different owners in Tokyo. Mitsui Fudosan, the Government Investment Corporation of Singapore (GIC) and Prospect Asset Management from Hawaii.

四ッ谷

昔からの言い伝えに“写真には千の言葉の価値がある”といいますが、言葉にはそれ以上の力があります。ホームページまたは広告でオークウッドの写真をみたことがある方もいらっしゃると思いますが、今回からは、写真に加えて私の経験、そしてお客様から頂いたコメントなども含えて、私の言葉でご説明させて頂きます。

まずは、通称OAY, オークウッドアパートメンツ四ッ谷からご紹介させていただきます。1年前に私と私の妻が東京に引越してきた最初の1ヶ月間ここに住んでいたこともあって一番身近に感じている物件です。

２００７年にオープンにしたばかりなので、モダンで心地よい空間がお客様をお出迎えします、www.tripadvisor.com,の書き込み欄には、オークウッドアパートメンツ四ッ谷の建物はとてもチャーミングで充実しているとの書き込みがありました、英語の書き込みですが、ホームページhttp://tinyurl.com/257cskで詳細を確認していただけますので是非ご覧ください。

四ッ谷は二番町に隣接しておりますが、残念なことに東京ではそれほど知られていません。東京の中心に立地し利便性は抜群です、電車を使えば、新宿、六本木、銀座へ数駅で着いてしまいます。もしよろしければGoogle Earthで35°41'6.09"N; 139°44'3.43"E.を検索してみてください。利便性を確認していただけると思います。

私は、オークウッドアパートメンツ四ツ谷に住むことをとても楽しんでいました、四ッ谷駅周辺の公園を散歩したり、地元に密着したレストランで食事したり、またコンビニエンスストア、スーパーマーケットもすぐ近くにあるので非常に便利でした。時には自転車で皇居のまわりを一周しながら東京の夏の夜を楽しむことも出来ました。

As the old cliché puts it, “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Sometimes, however, words can tell you more. You may have seen the photographs on our websites, and in our advertising, but in the next few posts, let me give you some impressions of our buildings in words, both mine, and from our residents, many of whom give us plenty of feedback.

Let me start with Oakwood Apartments Yotsuya , which we affectionately refer to as OAY, amongst ourselves. This building is close to my heart, as my wife and I lived there for a month when we first arrived in Tokyo, one year ago.

The building is new, having opened in February 2007, and with its modern yet comfortable design, has a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. One past resident, commenting on www.tripadvisor.com, said: “The entire Oakwood-Yotsuya's building is charming, modern and sophisticated”. You can see the entire comment at http://tinyurl.com/257csk, but apologies to our Japanese readers, as it’s only in English.

Yotsuya, and neighboring Nibancho, is not so well known by those not from Tokyo, which is a shame, as the location is so central and convenient; just a few subway stops from Shinjuku to the west, Roppongi to the south, and Ginza to the east. If you have Google Earth, you can see us from the air at: 35°41'6.09"N; 139°44'3.43"E.

We loved living at OAY. We took walks in the parks on either side of Yotsuya Station, enjoyed the many local restaurants, and loved the convenience of having convenience stores and a great supermarket right next door. Sometimes we rode our bicycles down to, and around, the Imperial Palace, a great way to pass a Tokyo summer evening.

I look forward to more people discovering OAY, because once you there, and experience the great facilities and atmosphere, and the fantastic value, you’ll definitely want to stay.

オークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブ＆麻布十番の支配人「ケレン・ミアーズ」

オークウッド東京による新しいブログを、最初に書かせていただける事を、とても光栄に存じます。今回、この最初のブログには、ぜひ私自身について書かせていただきたいと思います。

私はケレン・ミアーズと申します。愛する日本人の妻、ユキエと都内に住んでおります。出身はオーストラリアです。しかし過去10年以上オーストラリアを離れており、サイパンに5年住んだ後、5年前に日本に移り現在に至ります。オークウッドには、2002年秋のオークウッドレジデンス麻布十番オープンから勤務し、5年が経ちました。間もなく2004年1月には、オークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブのオープンにも携わりました。そして、これらのすばらしい２物件がオープンして以来、オークウッド東京は目覚しい躍進を遂げました。新たに４つの物件が加わり、現在は合計９つの物件を都心の主要なロケーションに展開しています。また、オークウッドが東京で拡大し成長を遂げたのと同じように、私自身もキャリアを積み、オークウッドレジデンス麻布十番とオークウッドレジデンス六本木ティーキューブの総支配人という重責を担うようになりました。

実は正直に告白致しますと、オークウッドでの仕事に応募するまで、私はサービスアパートメントについて何も知りませんでした。私はホテル業界で働いており、オークウッドで働く前までの12年間は、オーストラリアとサイパンの大手の国際的なホテルチェーンで働いていました。　しかし、サービスアパートメントというものを知ってからは、私はすっかりその魅力に取りつかれてしまいました。以来、休暇でどこかに行く際には、私は必ずホテルではなくサービスアパートメントに宿泊しようとするようになりました。サービスアパートメントはホテルの客室に比べて実用的でありすばらしい価値を提供しています。キッチンや洗濯機を完備し、リビングとベッドルームが分かれているサービスアパートメントの客室は、どこよりもリラックス出来る滞在をお約束します。

私たちのお客様は、単に「滞在」するのではなく、「生活」をしてるのです。その違いはとても大きなものです。私たちはお客様を「レジデント（居住者）」と呼び、お客様は私たちのアパートメントに住み、本当の我が家として生活しているのです。そして、私にとってすばらしい喜びの一つは、私たちはレジデントの方々と交流し、親睦を深める事が出来るということです。なぜなら私たちのレジデントは、ホテルのように単にチェックイン・チェックアウトをするだけではないからです。

次回からは、私がオークウッドの支配人となってからの体験談や感じた事などをお話したいと思います。

I feel very privileged to have been granted the honor of writing the very first words to be posted on Oakwood Tokyo’s new Blog.　 For this first entry I will take the opportunity to introduce myself.　

My name is Keren Miers and I live in Tokyo with my lovely Japanese wife, Yukie. My home country is Australia, but I have not lived there for over ten years after spending five years living and working on Saipan, and the last five years in Japan. I have worked for Oakwood for the past five years from late 2002, when I helped to open Oakwood Residence Azabujyuban. Then in early 2004 I again helped to open Oakwood Residence Roppongi T – Cube. And since these two great properties opened, Oakwood in Tokyo has rapidly grown by adding another four properties to reach today’s total of nine properties in prime locations in central Tokyo. As Oakwood has grown in Tokyo, so have I grown to reach the level of General Manager for both Oakwood Residence Azabujyuban and Oakwood Residence Roppongi T – Cube.　

To be perfectly honest, I had never heard about serviced apartments until I applied for my job here with Oakwood. My background was in hotels and I had spent the previous twelve years with a top multinational hotel chain in Australia and Saipan. But on hearing about the serviced apartment concept, I was totally hooked! 　Now when I go on vacation I will always try to stay in a serviced apartment over a hotel. 　Serviced apartments offer such great value and are so practical when considered against a hotel room. 　Our apartments with full kitchens, washer/dryer machines and separate living and sleeping areas make stays to be so more relaxing.

Our customers don’t simply stay in a serviced apartment; they live in them; and that is a huge difference. 　We call our guests “residents” and they really do make their apartments to be their home. And one of my great pleasures is that we really get to know our residents well as they don’t simply check in and out as hotel guests do. Our residents get to know all of the staff by name, and they will know you by name. 　

Over the coming weeks I will aim to share some of my experiences and insights about being a General Manager for Oakwood.
