魅力的な社員
こんにちは。オークウッドアパートメンツ新宿とオークウッドアパートメンツ四ツ谷でエグゼクティブアシスタントマネージャーを務めております、平岡マーシーと申します。弊社のウェブサイトwww.Oakwoodasia.Com/Japanをご覧いただきますと、説明するまでもなく、建物の写真が弊社のすばらしさをすべて物語っております。しかし今回は、卓越した建築、流行の先端をいきながらも安らぎを与えてくれるインテリア、最先端の施設（エクササイズジム、大浴場、ビジネスセンター、東京の夜景を一望できるスカイラウンジ）等の話をさせていただくよりも、このチャンスを生かして弊社に訪れた際に会いたくなる魅力的な社員たちの中から、数名をご紹介させていただきます。
まず最初に、オークウッドアパートメンツ新宿にてフロントオフィススーパーバイザーを務めております、David Tanuwidjajaを紹介させていただきます。彼はインドネシアから来日し、なんと5カ国語も話すことができます！彼がカスタマーサービスリプレゼンタティブからフロントオフィススーパーバイザーに昇進したのは最近のことであります。彼は、いつでもゲストを迎え入れるため、いつもその腕を開き、いつも笑顔でいます。それは「飛行機に乗り遅れるからもう出発しなければいけない！」などと言われない限りは消えることがありません！（笑）
次に、弊社のカスタマーサービス・レプレゼンタティブMichiko Moriを紹介させていただきます。彼女は典型的なかわいらしい日本の女性といった雰囲気を持っており、喋ったときのきわめて優雅なイギリスのアクセントには驚かされます。そしてその優雅さはこれだけには終わらず、非の打ち所がない髪や清潔感あふれる制服姿、礼儀正しくプロフェッショナルを追求する姿勢は他の見本となるような女性です。
Aya Yoshitamaは、最近弊社に加わったカスタマーサービスの一員です。彼女は、テンプル大学からの学位取得を現在待望しております。彼女のするどい質問からわかるとおり、彼女が無事卒業し、成功を収めていくであろうことには、誰も何の疑問の余地もないでしょう。彼女のことをみな、Aya ジュニアと呼びます。なぜか？（笑）
今度はAya シニアをご紹介しましょう。彼女は長い間オークウッドとともに生き、現在ルームズスーパーバイザーを務め、最近On-the-Job Trainer of the Yearに輝きました！彼女は、一緒に働く仲間たち一人一人が最大の能力を発揮できると確信するまで、働く手をとめようとしません。彼女は来月結婚をしますが、心配無用です、オークウッドと共に生きる人間ですから、彼女にはこれからもずっと会うことができます！！！！
続いて、Mariko Konnoをご紹介します。彼女もまた、カスタマーサービスの一員であり、4月に結婚したばかりです。その結婚式には数多くの仲間が参加をしました。これ以上ないであろうというくらい全てに驚かされるような盛大な式でした。これは、彼女の仕事のスタイルにも言えることです。彼女はこちらの期待をはるかに超えた活躍ぶりをみせてくれます。
その他の、我々のユニークなフロントチームのメンバーを紹介させていただきます。
Risaは、マレーシアの血が入った日本人の姫。Taehoは、韓国人で弊社のアイドル的存在、Natsukiは、弊社のスタッフの中で一番若いながらも十分に訓練を積んだやり手。Mihoは、並外れたパーティープランナー。Izumiは、一言で表現するとサザンベル。Shizukaは、いわゆる画家。Michiyaは、静かなコメディアン。Tetsuroは、密かなロックスター。Masaは、エジプトに移住していた経験の持ち主。Yumikoは、テニスのチャンピオン。Akiは、リフレクソロジスト。Macは、世界各国を飛び歩く旅人。そして、Mizukiは、オークウッドアパートメンツ四ツ谷でフロントオフィススーパーバイザーを務める、何よりもハワイを愛する女性！！
さて次回は、今回とは異なった、舞台裏の活躍者たちをご紹介いたします！！
Mercy
My name is Mercy Hiraoka and I am the Executive Assistant Manager at Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku and Oakwood Apartments Yotsuya. If you go to our website www.oakwoodasia.com/japan, the photographs of our buildings will speak for themselves. So instead of telling you about the unbeatable views, the trendy but comfortable décor, the enviable facilities (gym, sento, business center, Sky Lounge!), I’m going to take this opportunity to introduce you to just a few of the fascinating characters you might meet when you come stay with us.
We have David Tanuwidjaja, Front Office Supervisor at Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku. He hails from Indonesia and speaks 5 languages! He was recently promoted from Customer Service Representative. He will greet you with open arms and a smile that will never leave his face, until you tell him you must leave or you will miss your flight!
Next you can meet Michiko Mori, Customer Service Representative. She seems like your typical lovely Japanese girl until she starts speaking, and you’ll be surprised by the posh British accent! And her posh-ness doesn’t stop there. She will continue to impress you with her flawless hair, her immaculate uniform, and her always courteous and professional manner.
Aya Yoshitama is a recent addition to our Customer Service team. She is currently waiting to receive her degree from Temple University. With her ability to learn quickly by asking astute questions, she will no doubt graduate and pass with flying colors! We call her Aya Jr. Why?
Meet Aya Sr. She’s been with Oakwood for while and is the Rooms Supervisor aka On-the-Job Trainer of the Year! She will not rest until she knows that each one of our associates has the tools to be able to do their job to the best of their abilities. She’s getting married next month, but not to worry, you’ll be able to meet her since she’s an Oakwood lifer!
Mariko Konno, Customer Service Representative, got married in April and I had the pleasure of attending her wedding. It was absolutely stunning with everything you could ask for and more! That’s pretty much her work style too… She’ll offer you everything you ask for and more!
The rest of our unique Front Desk Team: Risa, the Malaysian-Japanese princess. Taeho, the Korean star. Natsuki, our youngest but most seasoned pro. Miho, party planner extraordinaire. Izumi, southern belle. Shizuka, the artist. Michiya, quiet comedian. Testuro, secret rockstar. Masa, who lived in Egypt. Yumiko, tennis champ. Aki, certified masseuse. Mac, globe-trotter. And Mizuki, Front Office Supervisor at Oakwood Apartments Yotsuya who’s addicted to all things Hawaii!

the tree of “I LOVE YOU” (愛の実る木)
オークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンではここ最近、千賀子、裕絵、加菜子、小奈絵、貴生と、スタッフの結婚をお祝いする機会が続いています。そしてその勢いは止まらず、１０月には明子の結婚も決まりました。今の時点で私が知っているのはこれだけですが、もっと続く気配があります。
ここには縁結びの神様がいるのかもしれません。
東京ミッドタウンの中のオークウッド目の前に続くミッドタウンガーデンで一本背の高い木があります。去年のイルミネーション期間、キラキラ輝くイルミネーションの中で、その高い木だけがピンクにライトアップされていたのをご存知でしょうか？私も何故一本だけピンクなのかとても不思議に思い聞いてみたところ、東京ミッドタウンの山本氏がおっしゃるにはそれはキューピッドの木で、愛する人とその木の下に立つと愛が実るのだそうです。
この“愛の木”の場所が気になる方はご連絡下さい。

At Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown, we have been blessed to celebrate the wedding events of our associates Chikako, Hiroe, Kanako, Sanae and Takao, it doesn’t stop there, with Akiko’s coming up in October. At this moment, that is all that I know of however, I hear that there may be more to come.
So, for those of you who would like to tie the knot, this is the place to be….
In the garden, in front of our property is the tallest tree in the Tokyo Midtown complex where this past Christmas it was the only tree all dressed up in pink. When asked, Mr. Yamamoto our President said that it was tree of cupid, where love will blossom should you stand under the tree with your loved one.

オークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンのクリスマス
今日はオークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンのクリスマスの妖精たちのお話です。
去年のクリスマスのハイライトの一つはテーマを考え出したことでした。私達が選んだテーマは、私どもオークウッドの会長であるハワード・ルビーが会社をあげて取り組んでいる温暖化防止運動のシンボルであるホッキョクグマで、それをベースにツリーの上から下までをデザインしました。もっとも大変だったのは白いツリーにするか緑のツリーにするかを投票で決めることでした。館内全てのクリスマスデコレーションはパーツをそれぞれ購入し、スタッフとまた、ご自宅でデコレーションできないことを残念がっておられたカナダからのお客様にお手伝い頂きながら、パーツを組み合わせながら手作りで装飾しました。まるでクリスマスの妖精のように毎晩毎晩遅くまでデコレーションを作り、館内のあちらこちらをどんどんキラキラに輝かせていったのです！
スタッフとお客様のクリスマスへのそれぞれの想いが一つになったツリーを初めて点灯した時は、忘れられない瞬間でした。点灯式で用意したエッグノッグ（もちろんお酒を効かせて！）でみんなで乾杯し、お客様の皆さまも東京でご自宅のような雰囲気を少し味わって頂けたようでとてもよろこんでいらっしゃいました。
クリスマス気分に合わせて、クリスマスシーズンの間は毎日スタッフ手作りのクッキーやお菓子をロビーにご用意し、お客様のお帰りをお待ちしておりました！

The Christmas elves of Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown at work…
One of the highlights last year’s Christmas was to come up with a theme for the property. The theme we selected was based on our Chairman Howard Ruby’s white polar bear and from there we created the plan from top to bottom. The hardest thing was voting for the white tree or the green tree. All our Christmas decorations were pieced together by our associates and one resident who missed decorating her home in Canada. We all spent sleepless nights like little elves putting all the decorations together, there was glitter, glitter and glitter everywhere!!!
It was a moment to remember when we turned on the lights for the first time, to see it all come together in the spirit of Christmas by our associates and one of our resident’s. Our resident’ were very happy to have a little bit of home with them in Tokyo where we served eggnog for our light up ceremony toast (spiked of course).
Along with the holiday spirit, you were always welcomed home with fresh cookies or sweets home baked by our associates throughout the holidays!!!

開業準備での楽しみ
オークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンの副総支配人をしております、花城エイミーと申します。
オークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンの開業準備スタッフとして、昨年は赤坂六本木エリアで大変注目を浴びていた東京ミッドタウンプロジェクトとあわせてオープンを迎えたこの物件の全ての運営に関わる開業準備にたずさわった大変やりがいのあるものでした。
その中でとっても楽しんだのはたくさんの応募者の方達と会うことができた採用面接でした。その中から私と総支配人のマーティン・フルックで慎重にスタッフを採用したわけですが、私達はその面接の中で一つ変わった質問をすることにしていました。その中で私が気に入っていたものは「あなたは卵を調理できますか？」というものでした。この質問をすると、その面接をしている方がユーモアのセンスのある方なのか、もしくは予想外の質問に動揺するのかがわかりました。私が一番気に入った答えは、ある女の子が言った「いいえ、できません。でも調理できるようになります！」というものです。
この開業からの１年を振り返り、私達は本当に最高のスタッフを採用したと実感しています。「なせばなる」というやる気に満ち溢れたスタッフばかりで、このオークウッドプレミア東京ミッドタウンの素晴らしいチームワークを築き上げた彼らを大変誇りに思っています。
私たちが常に心からお客様のことを第一に考えているからこそ、入居者の方へ快適なご滞在をお約束できるのです。
My name is Amy Hanashiro and I am the Executive Assistant Manager for Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown.
As a pre-opening staff of this property last year, it was certainly a challenge to coordinate the all operational requirements involved in opening this property in conjunction with complex Tokyo Midtown bringing prestige to the Akasaka & Roppongi area.
The most enjoyable part was the interviewing process where I got to meet people from all walks of life and from there, hiring of the associates who were handpicked by our General Manager, Martin Fluck and I. We decided to add a little fun to the normal interview questions and one of my favorite was “Can you cook eggs?” By asking this question, we could feel if the person being interviewed had a sense of humor and could fall in with the punches!!! One of my favorite answers was from a gal who said “No, but I’ll will!!”
Looking back at year that has already gone by, I must say we did hire the BEST OF ASSOCIATES for which I am very proud of for they all have the Can Do spirit that makes a great team that we have here at Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown.
Our resident’s can be rest assured that we will always have their best interest in our hearts and soul.

TRAINING CERTIFICATION (トレーニング検定)
前回はオークウッドのトレーニング部門についてご紹介させて頂きました。今回はどのように私達の管理職たちが日本の現地スタッフへオークウッドのサービスの素晴らしさを効果的に広めるようトレーニングされているかをお話しようと思います。
オークウッドユニバーシティのアジアパシフィック部門は定期的に新しいトレーニングプログラムを開発し、アジアの各オークウッド物件からのトレーニング担当スタッフがそれぞれの国でトレーニングを行えるよう研修する機会を設けています。私どもではこれを“トレーニング検定（training certifications）”と呼んでいます。トレーニングマネージャーとたいていの場合もう一名の選ばれた管理職スタッフが検定に参加します。
前回のトレーニング検定は中国のオークウッドレジデンス北京で行われました。オークウッドアパートメンツ新宿のフロントオフィススーパーバイザーと私で検定を修了してきました。この新しいプログラムの内容はどのように素晴らしいカスタマーサービスを実現させ、またお客様に満足していただけなかった場合にどのように効率よく対応するべきかというものを学ぶものでした。このプログラムは日本でもちょうど先日始まり、スタッフからも非常に好評でした。
これらのトレーニング検定の際には、トレーニングマネージャーや他の管理職に海外のオークウッド物件へ滞在できるという機会も与えられます。これは同時に海外のオークウッドスタッフと会うことのできる貴重な機会で、どのようにオークウッドが世界中の物件で同じサービスを保てるのかということを体験できる機会でもあります。
私にとって今回が始めての北京滞在でしたが、北京のスカイラインを変えるようなたくさんのプロジェクトの建築ラッシュに大変驚かされました。いくつかの新しい名所にはユニークなニックネームもついていました。例えば、国立競技場は「鳥の巣(The Bird’s Nest)」、国家水泳センターは「ウォーターキューブ(the Water Cube)」、また私が宿泊したお部屋の窓から見えたCCTVの新社屋は「ズボン(the Pants)」と呼ばれていました。写真を見ていただければその名前の由来をお分かりいただけると思います！

My last post introduced you to Oakwood’s Training Department. Today I would like to discuss how our key associates are being trained to effectively spread Oakwood’s service excellence to our local associates in Japan.
Oakwood University’s Asia Pacific Campus regularly develops new training programs that key associates from all Oakwood properties in Asia will learn to teach back at their respective countries. This is what we call training certifications. The Training Manager and usually another selected key associate from each country will attend the certification.
The last training certification was held in Oakwood Residence Beijing, China. Our Front Office Supervisor from Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku and myself have completed the certification. The content of this new program was to learn how to deliver customer service excellence and effectively handle service breakdown situations. We have just launched this program in Japan and it was well received by our associates.
These training certifications offer Training Managers and our key associates the advantage of travelling to Oakwood’s overseas properties. This is also a chance to meet our overseas associates and experience how Oakwood maintains its service consistency throughout the world.
This was my first time to visit China and I was impressed by all the new major construction projects which are transforming Beijing’s skyline. Some famous new sites had interesting nicknames: The Bird’s Nest (National Stadium), the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center) and the Pants (the new CCTV Headquarters) which I could see from my apartment window. Here is a photo of the Pants to understand the origin of its name.

THE ASSOCIATE EXPERIENCE（アソシエイツ・エクスペリエンス）
トレーニングマネージャーの桑畑ケンと申します。今回は皆さまにオークウッドのトレーニング部門についてご紹介したいと思います。
オークウッドで働くということは、“アソシエイツ・エクスペリエンス（Associate Experience）”といわれる体験をするということです。オークウッドでは、私達は内部顧客（internal customers）と外部顧客（external customers）の２つの顧客タイプの方々の為に働いています。外部顧客というのは私どものお客様（クライアント）なのに対して、内部顧客というのはアソシエイツと呼ばれる従業員たちとなります。私達の成功の秘訣は最高のカスタマーサービスと従業員をお客様と同じ位大切にしているという事です。
私達のトレーニング部門はオークウッドユニバーシティ（大学）と名づけられています。オークウッドユニバーシティはロサンゼルスの本社あり、度々“トレーニングマガジン”というアメリカの雑誌によるトップ１００優良トレーニング部門として選ばれております。今年のランキングはこちらをご覧下さい。オークウッドユニバーシティによるトレーニングは教室で行われるものから自己ベースで学習できるインターネットのコースまであります。
日本のトレーニング部門はシンガポールにあるオークウッドユニバーシティのアジアパシフィック支部の一部となり、次の任務を与えられています。
「最終的にお客様へ価値を提供する才能を育てる才能を育てる才能を育てる。」

つまり、私達の管理職たちは、実際のオペレーションスタッフへ教育・指導するそれぞれのセクションの責任者と知識を分かち合おうということです。私はトレーニングマネージャーとして、この“アソシエイツ・エクスペリエンス（Associate Experience）”を作り出していくことに携わり、内部顧客（internal customers）に向上の機会を与え、オークウッドの名高い外部顧客（external customers）への優れたサービスを維持しています。

My name is Ken Kuwabata and I am the Training Manager for Oakwood in Japan. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Oakwood’s Training Department.
Working at Oakwood is living what we call an “Associate Experience.” At Oakwood we serve two types of people: internal customers and external customers. Internal customers are known as associates (employees) while external customers are our guests (clients). Our success is based in outstanding customer service and our employees are valued as highly as our clients.
Our Training Department is named Oakwood University. Oakwood University is based in our headquarters in Los Angeles and has frequently been named as one of the Top 100 Training Organizations by an American publication called Training Magazine. You can view this year’s ranking by clicking here (note this is a 63MB file). Training conducted by Oakwood University varies from classroom to self-paced electronic courses.
Japan’s Training Department is an extension of the Asia-Pacific Campus of Oakwood University, based in Singapore, which has the following mission:
“To grow talents who will grow talents who will grow talents who will succeed in delivering value to our stakeholders.”
In other words, our key associates share their knowledge to our department heads who will in turn train and coach their own team. As a Training Manager, I am involved in creating this “Associate Experience” which provides our internal customers the opportunity to grow while maintaining Oakwood’s renowned service excellence for our external customers in Japan.
